Reads: Annie is Back.

Posted on 11:24 PM by fdgdfg
‹AROUND THE WORLD ON TWO WHEELS: Annie Londonderry's Extraordinary Ride by Peter Zheutlin.›
I got tagged by Jennine (over at the lovely The Coveted) Im still rather foreign to how this works. My initial plan was to share the info after I had read the book, I will still, but in the meantime here’s the steps:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

/// Page 123 from this wonderful piece: "Members of the club met her at Littleton. "Miss Londonderry when she was seen by a News representative last night was found to be a young lady who looked as if she might be an athlete, with coal black eyes, and a face tanned brown as a nut," reported the Denver Daily News. In Denver, Annie stayed at Glenarm Hotel for nearly a week. Typically, when she lingered, it was to muster her energy and make plans for the trip ahead (as in San Francisco), because she was being celebrated (as in Marseilles and El Paso, or because there were good opportunities to earn a few dollars or soak in the glamour of a foreign capital (as in Paris).

Adventurous story taking place in 1894, on her own, with a 42-pound bike, a revolver, a change of underwear and a dream of freedom...What is not to love so much about this pistol carrier, gutsy Jewish immigrant from Boston?!! (Annie Kopchovsky, changed to Londonderry in honor of her first sponsor) & thanks to the author, Mr.Zheutlin, I will become more familiar with his style, after I finish this, such an amazing story, though. Ride on!! // "A wonderful telling of one of the most intriguing, offbeat, and until now, lost chapters in the history of cycling" —David Herlihy, author, Bicycle: A History.

Official website here. Bought my copy at the local book store closest to me, no delivery trucks needed at my house.

Got to redeem a full (after 10 books) Frequent Buyer Card, spoke with the cute nerdy book clerk and got a snack. Buy Local <3
